[Catalist] JOIDES Resolution - webinar opportunities

Hi All, I have just noticed that on the new physics data sheet under the heading The Standard Model only one item appears – which has nothing to do with the heading. Also, why is the Hubble Law formula missing from the sheet when it is on the syllabus?

Dear Catalistians,

I am going to be sailing on the research vessel JOIDES Reolution for the next two months (6 October – 8 December) as education officer and as such can set up a two way webinar from the ship direct to your classroom. I can cover a variety of topics to suit the needs of your class (young or old) and will provide ideas and materials for you to use before and after the webinar. The research being conducted by the ship is on historic climate. We will be in an area of warm water that is responsible for driving the El Nino and La Nina climate cycles. We will be drilling into the ocean floor to collect sediment samples. Deeper sediment is older. From the micro-fossils of plankton found in this sediment we can determine past water temperature and by analysing the isotope ratio of oxygen we can also draw conclusions about past climates. This will help feed into climate models to make better predictions about future climate

If you book a webinar I will show you around the boat, discuss the science and give students a chance to talk to scientists. There are many resources to support the webinar - we have resources where data can be analysed, graphed  and interpreted, resources that support science lessons for all ages, and on many topics, and even activities that could be used in English lessons! I will be also running a poster competition where posters wll be submitted digitally and displayed on the JOIDES Resolution website.
