Come and join us and  take an in depth look behind the scenes with a series of presentations from practitioners and researchers. The Science Stream at the CrimeScene WA Conference is aimed at high school students (Year 10 – 12), but will be of interest to undergraduates and members of the general public, including those who are thinking of a career in forensic science or law enforcement.

How much: Tickets for the scientific stream are available as a stand alone ticket, but are only valid for the scientific stream. $25

Speakers include:

Dr Gavin TURBETT, BSc(Hons), PhD, FFSc(RCPA) is the Principal Scientist of the Forensic Biology Laboratory at PathWest Laboratory Medicine WA, and has held that role since 1999. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Curtin University, Murdoch University and the University of Western Australia, and lectures regularly to the WA Police, University students and others about forensic biology and DNA profiling. In 2011, he became a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Science, Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. He is a member of the Australia New Zealand Forensic Executive Committee (ANZFEC) and is the mentor to the Biology Specialist Advisory Group (BSAG).

Dr Sasha VOSS, BSc (Hons), MSc/PhD is a forensic entomologist within the Centre for Forensic Anthropology (CFA), School of Anatomy, Physiology and Human Biology at the University of Western Australia. She is currently a lecturer and forensic consultant engaged in research and teaching of medical and veterinary entomology. She is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society (ANZFSS), the Australian Entomology Society (AES) and an associate member of the European Association of Forensic Entomology (EAFE). She is also actively involved in numerous outreach programs and presents to a range of public audiences, promoting an awareness of the value of insects in forensic investigation.
 
Professor Simon Lewis BSc (Hons), PhD, CChem FRSC FRACI is Professor of Forensic and Analytical Chemistry in the Nanochemistry Research Institute and Department of Chemistry at Curtin University. His research interests are focused on chemical techniques applied to forensic analysis, in particular fingermark chemistry and exchange evidence. He is currently the Vice-President of the WA Branch of the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society. He is enthusiastically involved in outreach programs, using forensic science and analytical chemistry as vehicles to engage children of all ages in science.
