G'day folks,

The Royal Australian Chemical Institute, together with the Australian Water Association, the national peak water organisation, invite science teachers, to the April Monthly Members meeting on Tuesday 17 April at 5.30 pm in Building 500 room 1102, Curtin University. The theme for this meeting will be Water and we have two excellent speakers who will each present a short talk.

Access to safe drinking water is crucial for economic growth and poverty reduction. Perth's increase in population, coupled with declining rainfall has resulted in our traditional sources of water, the dams, being unable to satisfy demand. Over recent decades, the Water Corporation has introduced climate independent sources to help meet demands, including groundwater replenishment and desalination schemes.

Speakers
Garth Walter: Water. Learn it. Live it.
Stacey Hamilton: Perth’s Groundwater Replenishment Scheme – from a Trial to Reality

About the Speakers

He has worked within the Utility, Mining & Resources, Services, Agriculture and small business sectors. Dr Stacey Hamilton is currently acting as a Senior Technical Advisor for Membrane Treatment within the Water Quality Branch at the Water Corporation. Stacey has been at the Corporation for 10 years and been involved with the groundwater replenishment scheme since 2011. Stacey has been involved as the technical representative and Department of Heath Liaison for the scheme since that time. Stacey has been involved in the design, construction, commissioning, approval and operation of Stage 1 and is currently assisting Stage 2 of the scheme.

The format of the meeting is a networking get together with drinks (beer, wine and soft drinks) and nibblies (chips, cheese and crackers) starting around 5.30 pm ($5 donation at the door). At around 6.15 pm we have a presentation (~ 45 minutes) and this is followed by further networking (although most go after the talk). To register for the event (free to register, but need numbers for catering purposes), please go to https://www.raci.org.au/events/event/november-wa-branch-mmm-2-copy-copy-2  <https://www.raci.org.au/events/event/november-wa-branch-mmm-2-copy-copy-2>
