[Catalist] Resources for new teachers

Greetings to all.

My daughter started and has run for 3 years a book
repurposing/re-life-ing program, in which she collects cast offs from
her school (and others) and tries to place them with schools at need.
The idea being, if you give a textbook to a studious kid at a low SES
environment, you may fire them up, do good and help make the word a
better place. (Is it just me who remembers how much I loved reading some
textbooks - especially Web Of Life?)

As a byproduct, we have a collection of y7-10 science textbooks that
would be useful to new teachers without many materials.
It is always good to have a couple of "off program" textbooks. In the
two days during which you are dying of bird flu (actually, in our
profession, swine flu :D), you can fish out a couple of activities and
send them into your relief coordinator - especially if you are unsure
about the calibre of your relief teacher! There are other uses as well ...

Anyway, if you are a new teacher, and could use a few of these, please
contact me off list.

Cheers, and Happy New Year,
Leon

Partial list:
Science in view, v1,2,3
Science Outcomes 1
Science Quest 3,4
Heinmann Science for wa 2,3
Aspects 2&3 homework book
Science Living
Oxford big ideas Science
Fundamentals of science
Science Aspects
too lazy to type in the other half :)

etc.
Note that not all books will go to the one person - the aim is to
distribute, preferably to the needy, low SES if going as a reference
library, and the newly graduated, soon to be overrun!
