Which topic are you covering at the moment? If you are doing Earth Science, Questacon ran some great teacher PD here in WA a few years ago building a “Shake Table”. I used it in my class with good success. It works well if you can get a phone/tablet (non-apple “android enabled” device worked best) and install an app that records vibrations- that are sort of matched to the modified mercalli scale. Your students may be able to install the recommended app onto their own devices.

That takes only 2-3 lessons.
As students are not very academic.
