[Catalist] First place in the National Titration Stakes

Science Excellence at Belmont City College

WA state school students from Belmont City College demonstrated their outstanding Chemistry skills by winning the 2019 Australian National Titration Competition (ANTC), hosted by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. The Belmont City College team demonstrated the accuracy and speed of their titration skills in competition with other government and non-government senior secondary schools across Australia.

Success for the three Belmont City College Year 12 students, Thu, Aira and Andika did not come without effort. They spent many hours before and after school, honing their skills guided by their devoted Chemistry and Physics teachers Amit Hosany and Bradley Hearn.  Their efforts were also supported by the laboratory technicians at Belmont City College.

Of the Top 10 nationally-ranked teams in the ANTC finals, four of them were from WA, which bodes well for chemistry teaching in Western Australia. With STEM initiatives and jobs in science being a future focus, the prospects for these students are indeed bright.
