Thanks for sharing Stephen.

Great to see our long time generous members like Stephen and Rod sharing their resources, skills and wisdom.

I hope to see some our newer teachers with online practice and resources join in.
Don’t underestimate the value of what you have to share.
Don’t wait to be asked (Doh! – too late)

Regards,
John

Subject: [Catalist] Investigations

Hi all
In the light of all the changes brought on by CV and online learning, and “cannot have assessments that aren’t invigilated in-house” (SCSA)…..a couple of thoughts:

HB12 (and 11) Investigations have always (in my experience) been largely written up outside of class (then an in-class “validation” by way of re-writing their discussion authentically in class), but the rest….done outside of class, handed up then marked.
That can all still go ahead (its something at least, while we can’t “test”).
And, if you do the Body Temp Investigation for 12HB, they can do that (the prac, and the planning phase – for assessment) at home. Mine are teed up ready to go. Pulse, Temp, vaso, pilo (out of syllabus, yes…but I allow them to do it for this investigation – its still a mechanism, be it ineffective), breathing rate, BP (the “subjects” already have digital sphygs at home) and making a room hot or cold, no problem either (one is a farm lad and has a cool room even! Supervised, of course). So they are conducting and self-monitoring at home, just like they have done for years at school.

For Biol 11. My crew are doing weight gain (average and biomass) comparisons of yabbies (in our aquaponics setup) fed on chook vs marron pellets. I am happy to share data, pics, vid…whatever if someone wishes to use it for a second hand data write up (again….so we can at least do SOMETHING?!). Luckily we started it before they clocked off, they did water testing, initial measurements. Now its me, live via “Teams”. Best we can do.

Maybe a weight gain/growth rate of seedlings given different/dosages of fertiliser would be another Biol Inv idea? We need to be planting more vegies anyway!!

Just thoughts.

Keep truckin!
