[Catalist] To the Physics Teacher - UWA Physics Extension Program 2021 for your students

Dear Physics teachers

The UWA Physics Department is pleased to invite applications for the second Year 12 Extension Program.

The online program was developed last year and aimed to challenge and expand student’s physics learning capacity, develop their problem-solving skills, especially in the core areas of the WA Year 12 Physics Syllabus and expose them to cutting-edge research activities in the Physics Department of UWA.

The 2020 program feedback was very positive, with the majority of students saying they ‘strongly agreed’ that the three program aims above were met. Comments from teachers were also very positive, with one sharing that his student who was selected for the program shared the information from the program with his classmates.

Can you please share this information below with your Year 12 Physics students and encourage them to apply for the 2021 program.
Application due date has been extended to 23 July.

University of Western Australia - Physics Extension Program – 2021

Really love physics? Thinking of studying physics at university?

Apply now for the UWA Physics Extension Program.

  *   Get in depth coverage of elements of the year 12 physics syllabus from UWA experts.
  *   Topics covered include mechanics, electricity, special relativity and quantum physics.
  *   Meet enthusiastic physics students from other schools.
  *   Hear first-hand from UWA physics researchers about their work
  *   Topics include the search for dark matter, gravitational wave astronomy, and quantum computing.
When:
Wednesday evenings from 7pm – 9pm, for 9 weeks from 28th July to 22nd September.

Where:
Delivery will be via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, so country students are welcome.

Eligibility:
Year 12 student enrolled in physics.

  2.  Complete the application form - Link: https://www.stawa.net/opportunities/for-students/
  3.  Provide a copy of your year 11 report and your predicted ATAR.
  4.  Attach these to an email and send to admin-physics at uwa.edu.au<mailto:admin-physics at uwa.edu.au> by 16th July – extended to 23 July.
*Don’t worry if you can’t do all the problems!
