WAIITA are running a STEM event later this year. The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation are providing funding to support travel for regional and remote students to attend and would love to see more WA students engaged in STEM fun-times.

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Michael Lester and I represent the Game Changer Awards (GCA), an esteemed awards program that has been championing STEM education in Western Australia since its inception in 2016. Our mission at GCA is to encourage students between years 3-10 to delve deep into science, technology, engineering, and maths, and to apply these principles in solving real-world problems.
The Game Changer Awards were pioneered by the WA IT & Telecommunications Alliance (WAITTA) with the vision of ushering more young individuals into STEM careers. Our journey began in 2016 as a proof of concept, with only a handful of schools participating. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with both students and teachers finding the program rewarding, engaging, and fun. Over the years, our reach has expanded significantly. By 2018 and 2019, we had over 50 teams from all over Perth, including a few from rural areas, participating in our awards. While 2020 posed challenges due to the pandemic, we adapted by delivering the awards through a virtual platform. Our most recent event in 2022 was our most successful to date, boasting 53 project submissions, 160 students from across the state, and a total of 400 attendees, including parents, teachers, sponsors, activity providers, judges, and volunteers.
