Subject: Vocabulary Voyagers STEM start up from Perth

Dear Mr John Clarke,

We are a group of budding stem enthusiasts from St Mary's Anglican Girls School in Perth. We recieved your contact from Lyn Beazley who suggested that you might be able to help us raise some funds to travel to San Fransisco to attend the Technovation Global Pitch Event.

We formed Vocabulary Voyagers just over a year ago, whilst in a Creating Apps course at school. We have gone on to create an educational app which we recently entered into the global Technovation Challenge. We were announced as semi-finalists last week, putting us in the top 68 of 1669 teams worldwide and we are the only Australian team left in the competition. We have also recently been notified that our app came in the top 1% of the competition and only just missed out on getting into the finals.

Our App targets primary school students, with an aim to improve their literacy reading skills in a fun, digital environment. It offers a range of preset spelling lists based on the Australian National Curriculum and NAPLAN tests, as well as, more challenging lists in order to expand children's vocabulary. Not only does Vocabulary Voyagers improve children's spelling and vocabulary, but it also features games directed at improving reading comprehension, with many original stories, mini games and quirky pirates. The app helps children build a foundation to aid in literacy at a secondary level, not only the present generation of children, but to future generations. We have developed a solution to illiteracy in Australia in the form of a mobile application called Vocabulary Voyagers, which teaches literacy through interactivity.

The reason we are writing to you is that we are trying to source sponsorship to go to San Francisco for the World Pitch event. We estimate costs to be around $15,000 - $20,000, with around 30% of what we raise and any left over money going towards launching ourselves as a business and take the lite version of our app to the paid version and code it into iOS. All sponsors will be publicly acknowledged via our social media. Major Sponsors will also feature on the back of team clothing, in our app and on various types of advertisement. Through our various social media and via our main advocates - Tech Girls Movement and the school community of St Mary's Anglican Girls' School, we already have a combined current following of over 10,000 users.

We were hoping hoping that you would be able to put an article and appeal for funds in your newsletter. We would love to go to the world pitch event and we want to inspire other girls to get into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and to promote what we are doing.

Thank you very much in advance

Kind Regards,
Teale and Kira
