Dear All

I am writing this email to all STAWA members to ask if you would consider taking a UWA preservice secondary science teacher for a professional practice placement. Please read on and don't delete yet. With the end of the mining boom and the ending of the one year Graduate Diploma in Education, all WA universities have increased numbers of students studying to be secondary science teachers. This has placed stress on all of us to find quality prac places. All of you who are secondary science teachers (as I was) had the privilege of being supervised by incredible science teachers.

I have 50 secondary science students (mainly specialising in biology and human biology) that are due to start their prac in Week 6 (May 29th - Jul 30) of this term for their first prac where they will observe and teach up to three classes- no upper school required. If you are, or know of a science teacher who is at least in their third year of teaching who would be willing to take one of these students, can you please email me (not catalist) on vaille.dawson at uwa.edu.au<mailto:vaille.dawson at uwa.edu.au> and I will pass your details to our prac coordinator. I have had the privilege of teaching science curriculum to 100's of preservice teachers since 2001 at ECU, Murdoch, (postgrad) at Curtin and now UWA. Maybe this includes you or your colleagues perhaps.

We can look at flexible arrangements including country placements if accommodation is available, sharing of students between teachers and other possibilities (eg if you are not available the whole time).

I know you are busy and teaching is hectic but I can say that this next generation of future science teachers are amazing and will not disappoint.
