Greetings Catalistians,

As an alumnus of Curtin University are you attending the event "50 Years of Innovation in Chemistry at Curtin”?

CURTIN URL: https://alumni.curtin.edu.au/events/50-years-of-innovation-in-chemistry-at-curtin?erid=12762879&trid=258303ae-82ae-40a0-8bea-71875c417c35 <https://alumni.curtin.edu.au/events/50-years-of-innovation-in-chemistry-at-curtin?erid=12762879&trid=258303ae-82ae-40a0-8bea-71875c417c35>

I studied Applied Science at Perth Technical College [PTC] on St. Georges Terrace between 1963 to 1966, Pure Chemistry at WAIT from ~ 1967, and Business and Administration at WAIT from ~ 1968.

I still recall studying Glass Blowing at PTC on Friday evenings and having a few beers at the Palace Hotel on St. Georges Terrace during mid-break from Glass Blowing.

On return to the second-half session of Glass Blowing, a student colleague put the hot end of a Liebig Condenser, under construction, into his mouth and pulled it away and left lip-skin tissue on the hot end.

I also recall that the fume-hood cupboard in the ‘old' PTC Chemistry Laboratory used a naked gas flame to produce the necessary up-draught of air to carry away any fumes. The ‘world' of Chemistry has progressed!

At 73 years of age, [BD = 23/05/1944], I wonder if I will be the oldest alumnus attending "50 Years of Innovation in Chemistry at Curtin”?

Best Wishes,

Michael John McGarry
