Hi Beck,
A tip I had a long time ago when I was trying to do a similar activity with onions was to harvest the roots and fix them early in the morning.
I did have some success with this.

Cheers,
Glenda

Subject: [Catalist] Mitosis experiment

Hi all,

I am a lecturer at a TAFE, and I am seeking any feedback and assistance with experiments related to mitosis.

We have been trying to do the garlic root tip experiment, but with not much success (even though I had a lab technician previously who seemed to get it right, our new lab techs are not having much luck). The root tips grow well, but when we perform the microscopy, we don't see any mitotic phases in the cells. Not sure if we are leaving the tips to grow too long, or some other issue. I have attached the prac procedure.

Any tips, hints or suggestions from you??

Regards,
Beck
